  • Swiggy Now Offers 10-Minute Food Delivery Service Bolt to More than 500 Cities

Within seven months of its start, foodtech giant Swiggy has now brought its 10-minute meal delivery service, Bolt, to more than 500 Indian cities. The service, which was previously available in six top-tier cities, has now spread to tier II and III cities.

“Powered by a network of over 45,000 restaurant brands, Bolt has exploded across metro areas as well as tier II and III towns since its October 2024 launch,” Swiggy said in a statement. Bolt receives more than one order out of every ten food delivery orders placed on Swiggy’s platform.

Within a 2-kilometre delivery radius, the platform has featured high-demand, quick-serve items with little preparation time on Bolt. Burgers, hot and cold drinks, breakfast foods, and biryani are among the dishes that take the least amount of preparation time.

Additionally, it offers ready-to-pack snacks, chocolates, and ice cream. Bolt offers a variety of Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) brands, including KFC, McDonald’s, Subway, Faasos, Burger King, and Curefoods.

According to Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, it has been amazing to watch the company grow to more than 500 cities in a few months. And this is only the start.

Bolt’s Popularity Forced Swiggy to Expand Business

The company stated in its statement that Bolt serves as a consumer acquisition mechanism for Swiggy, as the monthly retention of new users acquired through it is 4-6% higher than the average on the platform. When Swiggy Bolt was introduced in 2024, it was available in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, and Pune.

In addition to Bolt, the foodtech behemoth launched SNACC, a stand-alone app, in January to provide meals, drinks, and small nibbles in 15 minutes. SNACC, which was first offered in Bengaluru at specific pin codes, is now also delivered in Noida and Gurugram.

Swiggy says it can deliver a variety of food and drink items through the SNACC app, such as fruit bowls, tea, coffee, breakfast specials, snacks, and cold beverages. Last month, Swiggy launched its professional service marketplace, Pyng, for customers as part of its most recent service growth.

Pyng is an AI-powered platform that links users with vetted service providers, such as financial advisors, astrologers, travel and education specialists, and health and wellness specialists.

From Quick Commerce to Quick Food Delivery

The development occurs at a time when rapid delivery has emerged as a viable segment for both new and emerging foodtech and e-commerce firms. Zepto Cafe, Blinkit’s Bistro, Bengaluru-based firm Swish, Gurugram-based platform Zing, and Rebel Foods’ most recent “QuickiES app” are all located in the rapid meal delivery sector.

Even while rapid commerce platforms release new services every three months, the user interface of the apps still needs work.

According to reports, Swiggy and Zepto, two major players in fast commerce, received notices from the Delhi High Court last month regarding their apps’ unpleasant user interfaces for those with visual impairments. By 2030, the fast commerce market in India is expected to have grown to a size of $40 billion.

  • Zomato Competes with Swiggy Bolt and Zepto Cafe in the 15-minute Delivery Race

Zomato has increased competition in the rapidly changing quick food delivery market by subtly launching a 15-minute meal delivery service. Currently accessible through the Zomato app, the new functionality puts the business in a competitive position against rivals such as Swiggy’s Bolt, Magicpin, and Zepto.

Although the service has not yet been formally announced, it is currently operational in a few major cities, including Bangalore and Mumbai. In the app’s explore section, a special “15-minute delivery” page has emerged, displaying a variety of ready-to-eat and quick-to-prepare items from participating restaurants. Similar to Swiggy’s Bolt, Zomato restricts deliveries to eateries within two kilometres in order to guarantee prompt service.

Rapidly Sprawling Nexus of Quick Commerce

With its decision to provide 15-minute delivery, Zomato enters a highly competitive market where quick delivery is increasingly important for standing out from the competition. This comes soon after the debut of Blinkit, Zomato’s rapid commerce division, which will soon unveil “Bistro,” a service that promises to bring nutritious juices, snacks, and meals in a matter of minutes.

In a similar vein, Swiggy began offering its Bolt service in October 2024 and has since stated that 5% of all of its food delivery orders are currently completed using this expedited delivery option. In order to meet the increasing demand for lightning-fast service, Zepto has also stepped up its focus on quick meal delivery by releasing a second app called Zepto Cafe.

Other Players Soon to Join the Race

Ola Dash, Ola’s 10-minute food delivery service, began in Bengaluru and is currently being rolled out nationwide. With JioMart, Reliance also intended to enter the fast commerce market last year, offering deliveries in less than 30 minutes. According to reports, Myntra, a shopping portal, has begun testing its own 30-minute delivery service for specific brands in a few Bengaluru neighbourhoods.

Performance of India’s Quick Commerce Sector in 2024

In addition to substantial venture capital and expansion, the quick commerce industry saw the arrival of big companies and experienced remarkable user growth in 2024. Zomato-backed Blinkit turned adjusted EBITDA positive in March 2024, and Swiggy went public recently.

Amazon declared Tez and Myntra introduced “M-Now,” while Flipkart ventured into fast commerce with “Minutes.” Now, every major company is concentrating on the quickly expanding fast commerce business, due to the demand and broad adoption in tier-2 and tier-3 cities as well as metro areas.

According to the Tracxn study, the rapid commerce industry had a notable increase in funding in 2024, raising $1.37 billion in equity capital from seven rounds, primarily owing to Zepto, which raised $1.355 billion in three $300 million rounds. Redseer, a consultancy firm, projects a 40–45% GMV CAGR for q-commerce over the next three years. All players have now increased their services beyond only grocery and food to include toys, Dhanteras gold, cosmetics, fashion, and electronics, among other things.

  • Swiggy Extended its 10-minute Meal Delivery Service, “Bolt,” to More than 400 Locations

Swiggy Ltd., an on-demand convenience platform, announced on 2 December that it has extended its Bolt 10-minute meal delivery service to more than 400 Indian cities and towns. According to a statement from Swiggy, Bolt was first introduced in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. Today, it operates in Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Indore, Coimbatore, and Kochi.

The 10-minute meal delivery service has been extended by Swiggy to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, including Roorkee, Guntur, Warangal, Patna, Jagtial, Solan, Nashik, and Shillong, the company said. According to the report, the states with the greatest Bolt adoption rates are Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, followed by Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Punjab.

Closely Working with Restaurant Partners for Bolt

In order to maximise order priority for Bolt orders that contain food products that require little to no preparation time, Swiggy stated that it is actively collaborating with eateries.

There is no incentive for quick delivery, and delivery partners are not made aware of the difference between Bolt and standard orders for their own safety. According to the corporation, Bolt’s current delivery radius of 2 kilometres fosters familiarity and allows for quicker delivery. Additionally, it stated that giving priority to delivery executives who are nearest to Bolt stores maximises delivery speed.

    Features of Bolt

Bolt, which was created with speed in mind, specialises in foods that can be served without sacrificing quality, freshness, or taste. Swiggy further stated that it offers a selection of over 10 lakh dishes from over 40,000 restaurant partners.

Bolt is transforming the dining experience for patrons. It was simple to decide to expand Bolt given the positive feedback the company has received thus far and the increasing enthusiasm from local and national eateries. According to Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy’s Food Marketplace, the company is excited to expand this experience to even more cities and homes.

It has collaborated with local businesses like Gwalia Sweets in Ahmedabad, Karachi Bakery in Hyderabad, Shiraz in Kolkata, Irani Cafe in Pune, and KFC, McDonald’s, Burger King, Baskin Robbins, and Starbucks. Restaurants in Tier II cities, such as Baap of Rolls in Roorkee and Varalakshmi Tiffins in Guntur, report that Swiggy Bolt processes more than 10% of their orders.

The industry leader in meal delivery, Gurgaon-based Zomato, tried 10-minute food delivery in 2022 but ended the trial programme and introduced Zomato Everyday instead. In comparatively shorter amounts of time, Zomato Everyday delivers meals made by home cooks from central kitchens.

    Swiggy’s this Year’s Performance

In the quarter that ended in June 2024, Swiggy recorded a gross order value (GOV) of INR 6,808 crore, up from INR 5,959 crore during the same period the previous year. During the April–June quarter, the firm had 14.03 million monthly transacting consumers.

According to a research report published on November 25 by broking firm UBS Securities, Swiggy’s GOV for food delivery grew more slowly than Zomato’s in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, but both businesses are predicted to grow at comparable rates starting in FY26.
