    The Idea Behind Starting SpeaQin

While working on VLMS Global, Aman, Nikhil and Pratiek, came across the idea of creating a video conferencing platform, which they thought would be very supplemental to the work they were doing.

The founders perceived that there are fewer to none tools for video conferencing that offer easy to use interface and user data security in India. Also, user data by western competitors is usually stored beyond Indian jurisdictions. The team wanted to introduce a home bred solution that offers a robust interface and high levels of data security and privacy of the users. Before introducing SpeaQin, they thoroughly researched the market to gauge the demand for video conferencing solutions, and launched the platform on June 2020.

We kept focusing on developing our products and services to the best level possible, knowing that users shall acknowledge the value sooner or later. In order to scale a business, it is crucial for the entrepreneurs to market their products effectively.” Pratiek quotes about the marketing techniques being followed by the startup.

Challenges Faced by the SpeaQin Team

Designing the pricing plans is a challenge the startup is facing. Where charging high causes customer attrition, charging low pushes the company into losses. Under this circumstances, the SpeaQin team is paying attention to targeting the right set of audiences to keep up its sales.

SpeaQin – Growth & Future Plans

SpeaQin has launched its product as a globally available service online.  SpeaQin was launched in June 2020, and though the revenue for the first quarter is lean, which is close to INR 22 Lacs, but the growth trajectory has been consistent. The platform is already having more than 5000 visitors on its website every day and simultaneous sign ups too. The SpeaQin team is planning to reach the goal of half a million registered users by the end of the next month. With VLMS Global’s total product offerings, which includes its research and analytics arm, the startup made revenues of close to 10 CR in the Financial year 2019-2020.

The startup is also planning to integrate SpeaQin with its newer and bigger service offering called XperTalk, that connects individuals and institutions to service providers, at consultants, freelance and organizational levels. This adds on to the advantage for innumerable experts to provide their services and help grow their business and reach. XperTalk also intends to connect to smaller regional communities and single work seeking professionals to provide their services. This is very supplemental to VLMS Global’s data analysis and market research consulting arm ‘Verified Market Research’ . Speaking about ‘XperTalk’  the Online Consulting Marketplace, that the startup launched in August 2020,  Pratiek quotes,

“XperTalk provides a launchpad for our growth in the coming year. We are positioning XperTalk amongst notable competitors in the industry but with an angle to provide social as well as regional assistance to individuals who may seek newer employment avenues due to the losses by the pandemic.”

The VLMS Global team is always looking for unique solutions that offer increased work productivity whilst keeping high standards of data security. They offer solutions from conferencing to market research and data analysis online advisory. With having built a minimum viable product and now all arms generating enough revenues, the company is expanding its reach to newer geographies and horizons.

“The vision is to be able to create a highly valuable company offering class leading communication and data analysis offering. We see ourselves reaching our goals sooner than ever as our growth trajectory has been hardly affected by the current market destruction too. Through our future plans, we are thrilled that it will cause a social reaction that will help small and regional businesses and individuals to promote and monetize their services. We are emphasizing the make in India campaign so that Indian technology products get a global positioning and recognition.”  Pratiek said speaking of VLMS Global’s vision.

Keeping up with the demand, the identity verification market is expanding. iDenfy – Founders & Team

Domantas Ciulde & Gediminas Ratkevicius are the founders of iDenfy. The founder duo knew each other from childhood and grew up in the same neighborhood.

Laimonas was the first employee who joined iDenfy. Laimonas believed the idea as well and he left the big tech company with a well-paid position and joined iDenfy’s small two members team, while the iDenfy co-founders were still working in a 6 sq. m. corner office without any earnings.

Currently, iDenfy is a 20 member team, working in Kaunas Science and Technology Park backed by Kaunas University of Technology.

    iDenfy Team
    iDenfy Team

The iDenfy team strives to build a safer tomorrow together!

    Idea Behind Starting iDenfy

The initial idea born in 2015, was to create a system to fight against credit card fraud. After researching, the iDenfy team found that the best method to defend from credit card fraud is identity verification. In the same year, after long studies of computer vision and machine learning an identity verification prototype was created.  This first prototype however was only able to recognize passports from one country, but even with that prototype during 2016, iDenfy was successful to find its first clients who later became their first investors as well.

    iDenfy – Name & Logo

The name ‘iDenfy’, is born from the word – identity.

“In the beginning, it sounds like a brilliant name for our startup but running the time we realized that is one of the most popular typos humans are making. All search engines, proofing tools are detecting “iDenfy” as a word with a mistake and auto converting it to identity. We are still struggling with search engines to recognize “iDenfy” as our brand name, not a typo” says Domantas regarding the startup’s name.

    iDenfy – Revenue Model

The commonly used pricing model in the identity verification market is pay per verification. Here, iDenfy has come up with a unique pricing model – pay per successful verification, where, iDenfy charges its customers only for the successfully onboarded customer in their system. While, fake, failed and unfinished verification are free of charge.

    iDenfy – Marketing Strategies

The iDenfy team is focusing more on improvising its services and thus to generate a positive word of mouth, rather than spending a fortune on marketing gimmicks. This technique has been successful and today over 150 customers are associated with iDenfy.

“We invested not in marketing, but into technology development. We invested not in the sales team, but invested in researching and communicating what would make our customers’ life more comfortable. We invested not in customers’ on boarding standards and procedures, but we spent time with every customer as they would be our only one, main customer” Domantas quotes

    iDenfy – Funding & Investors

iDenfy has raised  a total  of 320000 EUR funding in 4 rounds till date.

    Date Stage Amount Investors
    2017 Pre-seed 90,000 EUR Angel Investors
2018 Seed 110,000 EUR Angel Investors
2019 Seed 100,000 EUR Angel Investors
2019 Seed 20,000 EUR Startup Hub Poland accelerator

    iDenfy – Challenges

Major challenges for iDenfy were technical as the product is software.

“The biggest issues working with computer vision and machine learning were how to make face recognition and optical recognition systems more accurate and how to make them detect fake ID or a fake selfie. Luckily, after sleepless nights, we found solutions”  quotes Domantas explaining the technical challenges faced by iDenfy Team.

The second problem was team management. Initially the founders thought that the more the number of people in the team, the more tasks they will be able to complete. But gradually they realized the it is possible to complete tasks more efficiently with fewer employees when they are managed in teams correctly. Currently no more than five employees are there per team.

The third main problem was trying to enter markets without local partners (local distributors). Later the founders were convinced that local partners are important for entering into new territories.

The iDenfy team spent a lot of time on product development, but remarkably less on marketing and sales. After they got the product right, however the team comprehended that that marketing and sales are an essential part to reach out to the target customers.

Keeping the employees motivated is another challenge, and bonus system is the best solution to it, as said by iDenfy co-founder Domantas Ciulde

    Grexter – Launching

    Grexter Living
    Grexter bangalore

Grexter decided to operate from Bangalore as the city has a very cosmopolitan nature. With rapid urbanization and an increase in population, it is amongst the fastest-growing cities in India. Every year, lakhs of young adults migrate to Bangalore for better career prospects. Unfortunately, a majority of them are forced to stay in cramped PGs without having access to basic facilities. Grexter wanted to address these issues by providing them with affordable yet quality co-living spaces at prime locations. For company, marketing was never a priority, they focused on making a product that speaks for itself.

Co-Living – Market and Industry Details

India’s co-living segment has huge growth potential. According to the latest projections by RedSeer Consulting, the domestic co-living market will be worth more than 2 billion USD by 2022. The number indicates the increasing demand for tech-enabled co-living facilities in the country. According to a survey, over 50 percent people in the age group of 18-35 years are willing to rent co-living spaces and pay up to Rs 15,000 a month in top Indian cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Although the concept of co-living is more popular in the metro cities, it has started to catch up with the residents of tier II and tier III cities as well.

The term Grex is derived from the Latin noun ‘grex’ meaning ‘flock’. The co-living company builds inclusive surroundings for youngsters who come together to live with them, their community symbolizes the flock that sticks together no matter what. Grexter is a representative of the flock it belongs to. They added the word ‘living’ to Grexter to explain their offering better – living spaces for the young.

    grexer living

Company’s logo has 3 circles – the smallest one on the outside represents the tenant, the bigger inclusive one represents the surrounding, which the tenant is just about to enter, while the center circle represents his private zone which is his own personal space amidst the larger community. The whole combination also looks like a “G” representing Grexter.

Grexter – Business Model and Revenue Model

Grexter works on operator model in which they sign buildings with minimum 100 beds capacity by entering into a long-term lease with the owner of the property. They promise a minimum rental plus a revenue share with the owner. After adding operating cost and margins they rent these beds to the end-user at a competitive market price.

Grexter – User Acquisition and Growth

Grexter not just provide a place to live but each one of their building is designed to connect and inspire people. Their living spaces foster human connection and enable people to lead more fulfilling lives. The cultural activities and events are ever-changing and bespoke to each location. That’s what differentiates Grexter Living from other co-living spaces and has worked from the very start to attract people.

It currently operates in 21+ Locations across Bangalore has 2200+ beds and 3000 beds in the upcoming 6 months. Their Current Annual Revenue rate is of INR 19.2 crores and an occupancy of 95% at mature locations.

Bride Brite – Target Market Size

The wedding industry is $55 Billion. Specifically, there is a growth in the wedding prep industry with fitness, diet, and hair programs specifically for brides. After identifying a gap in the market for teeth whitening, the founders found an opportunity. Women of the age 18-35 are the leading demographic purchasing teeth whitening products and are also the most likely to be a bride.

    How was Bride Brite Started?

The Bride Brite story started in March 2019.

“The day I had been dreaming about for years finally happened. Ryan proposed, and I said “YES!” I knew that I wanted to feel and look my best for our wedding day”, recalls Erica Halpern, founder of Bride Brite.

She found the right hair regimen, workout program, nutrition guide, and so much more. One thing she could not find was the perfect teeth whitening program. She was looking for an easy, effective, and affordable way to have Wedding White Teeth for their special day.

Erica challenged Ryan (her fiancé and go to dental expert) to create the perfect solution for achieving Wedding White Teeth. He researched and discussed various formulations with the world’s leading experts on teeth whitening. Out of this research, the Bride Brite Wedding White Teeth kit was born.

    Bride Brite – Product/Services

Bride Brite’s superior Wedding White Teeth Kit uses dual-light technology inside of a comfortable mouthpiece to unlock the user’s most dazzling smile. The kit does more than whiten teeth! A blue LED light in the mouthpiece accelerates the whitening process, while a red LED light reduces sensitivity and improves overall gum health. Users can turn on both lights to combine the benefits of accelerated whitening and valuable gum support.

    Bride Brite Kit
    Bride Brite Kit

Ryan researched the optimal ingredients to provide safe and effective whitening. He also reached out to many colleagues and experts in the field of teeth whitening. The formula and ingredient breakdown are unique to Bride Brite, and the founders believe that they have designed the best possible solution.

    Bride Brite Kit
    Bride Brite Kit

We know sensitivity is an issue. Unlike whitening strips, Bride Brite’s whitening serum contains desensitizing ingredients to help prevent any sensitivity issues. The kit also includes an additional desensitizing-only pen that can be applied to those who are likely to experience sensitivity.

Founders of Bride Brite and team

Bride Brite is founded by Erica Halpern and Ryan Chaliff in 2020.

Ryan is a dentist, so he’s an expert on all things dental. The other half (Erica) is an occupational therapist and expert on all things bridal. They are learning as they go and splitting up the work evenly.

The founders shot around a lot of different names, and Bride Brite stuck. Once they said it, they felt it captured what we created.

The Idea Behind Starting Kdan Mobile

While working with ITRI, Kenny participated in JSR291 on behalf of ITRI to help make international software specifications. Seeing that the software industry overseas has been expanding rapidly, he started to realize that the software industry in Taiwan was not on the same level, and being a software expert Kenny felt that he could make a difference to it.

When App Store changed its business model and industrial structure, which allows software engineers from around the world to freely develop all kinds of mobile applications and have them go on the market, Kenny was all set to grab the opportunity. He had his very first app- PDF Reader launch on App Store, and found that the app had been generating steady revenue. Kdan Mobile – Business Model & Revenue Model

Kdan Mobile’s source of revenue includes the subscription fee paid by users. The company offers the following three subscription plans

    • Individual subscription plans: targeting professionals, designers, teachers and students. US$60/user/year.
    • Volume purchase plans for educational institutions and SMEs: approximately US$6000/organization/year based on the number of the licenses.
    • SDK/API integration for enterprise: US$15,000/organization/year based on the customization demand.

Regarding Kdan Mobile’s business model, the company started off as a B2C company, and extended its services to the B2B segment as well 3 year back (in 2017). In the B2B segment, Kdan provides cloud-based services for small- to medium-size enterprises and licenses customized APIs (application programming interfaces) or SDKs (software development kits) to large-size ones for them to introduce Kdan-developed software to their internal operational processes.

“Kdan was first running a B2C operation. We received quite an amount of mass purchase orders from enterprises. When the B2C market started to get saturated, we thought switching from B2C to B2B model might be a good idea since we met lots of customized needs and also adopted API integration during the B2B transition and we soon realized that this market potential is huge for us. Compared with B2C, B2B marketing takes a much longer time, but many enterprise users usually stick to original suppliers” says the  Kdan Mobile CEO about the company’s transition from b2b to b2c model.

    How was MeVero Started?

Both, Co-founders of MeVero, Kaushik and Aritra, had a long run in the Corporate world before commencing MeVero. Both were disillusioned with the pandemic of employee dissatisfaction rampant across all companies. They realized the potential and need for a global community of people pursuing their passion that will connect its users to people of similar passion, so that strangers across the world can discuss, collaborate, create projects and help each other pursue their individual passion.

Aritra set up his first tech venture, Wedoria Technologies in 2012, with a mission to help every human being find their purpose in life. In 2018, along with Kaushik, he started his second entrepreneurial venture, MeVero, to focus his efforts on enabling the pursuit of passions.
