  • Airtel Offers Free Apple Music Subscription to Prepaid Users After Perplexity AI Tie-Up

It looks like Bharti Airtel is adding more bundled digital services for its Indian consumers. According to reports, the telecom operator has extended its collaboration with Apple, which was previously restricted to postpaid and broadband consumers, by providing free access to Apple Music for its prepaid customers.

The action was taken only a few weeks after Airtel gained notoriety for giving its customers free access to the premium artificial intelligence application Perplexity AI Pro. Telecom Talk was the first to notice that some Airtel prepaid users have started to see the Apple Music offer within the Airtel Thanks app. Users can take advantage of the streaming service for free for a maximum of six months, according to the banner.

How Long Will Airtel’s Free Apple Music Subscription Last?

The subscription will automatically renew at INR 119 per month after the free period expires. Details regarding the eligibility requirements are still unknown, as Airtel has not yet made a formal announcement. To find out if the perk is accessible for their account, consumers can log into the Airtel Thanks app. It’s interesting to note that the offer was observed even on a 5G plan that wasn’t limitless, indicating that it could not be limited to certain expensive recharges.

Airtel’s Digital Bundles: From Perplexity AI Pro to OTT Packs

This new addition is a component of Airtel’s comprehensive content aggregation strategy. In order to offer top-notch entertainment and productivity tools under its recharge packs, the company has been aggressively collaborating with both Indian and international platforms. Airtel established an association with Apple last year to provide its customers subscriptions to Apple TV+ and Apple Music. This was first made available to postpaid and broadband users in February 2025, but it now appears that the massive prepaid base is also benefiting.

Apple Music, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and More in Airtel Plans

Airtel also just unveiled new recharge options that provide customers access to more than 25 OTT platforms together with broadband and unlimited calls. Among them are well-known brands including Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5, SonyLIV, Lionsgate Play, Hoichoi, SunNxt, and Aha.

According to Airtel, the packs would serve a variety of audiences nationwide by providing entertainment in over 16 languages. For instance, the INR 279 prepaid plan gives subscriptions to Netflix Basic, Zee5, Disney+ Hotstar, and Airtel Xstream Play Premium and has a one-month validity period. Airtel emphasised that the OTT subscriptions included in this plan are valued at around INR 750. The same pack is also offered as a “content-only” recharge, which comes with 1GB of data per month and all the same OTT perks.

For heavy users, Airtel offers a plan for INR 598 that includes 28-day valid OTT subscriptions, unlimited 5G data, and unlimited calling. The most expensive recharge plan, INR1,729, provides 84 days of unlimited 5G internet and voice calls along with the same selection of streaming services.

  • Airtel & Perplexity Unite to Bring Free AI Search to Millions

The AI-powered search engine Perplexity and Bharti Airtel launched a collaboration on 17 July. As a result, all Airtel customers will receive a complimentary 12-month subscription to Perplexity Pro, which would normally cost INR 17,000 annually worldwide.

Customers of Airtel’s DTH, broadband, and mobile services can access the offer via the Airtel Thanks app. This is the first time Perplexity has worked with an Indian telecom provider.

Airtel presently has over 390 million users in India, second only to Reliance Jio, which has 475 million, according to the most recent figures from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

    What is Perplexity?

Perplexity is a conversational, AI-powered search and answer engine that goes beyond conventional search results to provide immediately digestible, thoroughly researched solutions.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, commented on the collaboration, saying the business is excited to announce a revolutionary relationship with Perplexity that will deliver their state-of-the-art AI capabilities exclusively to Airtel customers.

“Through this partnership, millions of users will have free access to a robust and up-to-date knowledge tool. The goal of this first-of-its-kind Gen-AI collaboration in India is to empower our clients to confidently and easily traverse the new trends in the digital world,” he added further.

More individuals in India, including students, working professionals, and home managers, will have access to accurate, trustworthy, and professional-grade AI thanks to this collaboration, according to Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of Perplexity.

Users may learn more, access information more quickly, and accomplish more with Perplexity Pro.

How this Collaboration can Benefit the Users?

Advanced AI models like GPT-4.1 and Claude, deeper research tools, image generation, file uploads and analysis, and Perplexity Labs—which helps with idea and project development—are all available to subscribers of Perplexity’s Pro version.

The agreement with Airtel comes after Perplexity and Motorola launched a global alliance in April 2025, whereby Perplexity is pre-installed on millions of Motorola smartphones, including the most recent Razr and Edge 60 series.

Perplexity Pro, which gives customers access to sophisticated capabilities including deep research, several AI model choices (such as GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and Sonar), unlimited file uploads, and AI-enhanced purchasing tools, is provided to Motorola users for free for three months as part of that collaboration.

    Perplexity Gaining Popularity

According to a media report last month, the startup is also getting close to a comprehensive agreement with Samsung.

As per reports, Samsung is in advanced talks to include Perplexity’s search capabilities in the Samsung web browser, preload the app and assistant on future devices, and maybe incorporate Perplexity technology into Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant.

A media source claims that the business is assessing Perplexity and other industry participants for such a deal. Although specifics are still being finalised, the integration is anticipated to debut as early as the Galaxy S26 lineup in 2026.

Samsung intends to be a significant investor in Perplexity’s upcoming investment round, according to a media outlet. The business is seeking to earn $500 million at a $14 billion valuation.

  • Apple Reportedly Courting Perplexity AI in Strategic AI Bid

According to reports, Apple is thinking about putting in a bid to acquire Perplexity, an artificial intelligence (AI) startup.

The Cupertino-based tech conglomerate has reportedly talked internally about the potential move to support its internal development of AI models and services.

The possible transfer coincides with multiple delays in the company’s development of key features, like the AI-powered Siri, which still has no anticipated release date.

But if the business decides to buy Perplexity, it will be the most expensive acquisition it has ever made.

Multiple Rounds of Discussion Between Apply and Perplexity AI

Apple’s head of mergers and acquisitions, Adrian Perica, has reportedly led discussions with senior officials, including Services SVP Eddy Cue and other important decision-makers in charge of Apple’s AI goal, according to a media outlet.

The business has met with Perplexity several times in recent months to discuss the possibility of a deal, but it has not yet made a formal offer and may decide not to proceed.

Perplexity AI, a rapidly expanding firm founded by Aravind Srinivas, combines conversational AI with real-time online search, perhaps serving as the basis for an Apple AI search engine.

Apple is weighing two options: either a strategic partnership that incorporates Perplexity’s AI capabilities into Safari and other Apple services or a full acquisition that would incorporate Perplexity’s technology and talent into Siri and iOS.

Apple Wants to Acquire More AI Talent

Apple is actively seeking AI expertise, which is why it is interested in Perplexity. According to reports, the business is vying with Meta for the services of industry leaders including Daniel Gross, the creator of Safe Superintelligence Inc. Due to development issues, Apple has postponed the release of its next-generation Siri.

During Google’s antitrust trial, Eddy Cue recently testified that Apple had talked about integrating Perplexity with Safari. The multibillion-dollar deal between Apple and Google, which guarantees Google Search will continue to be the default on iPhones, was clarified by the testimony.

If regulators force a separation, that transaction, which was valued at $18 billion in 2021 alone, could be in jeopardy. In that case, purchasing Perplexity might give Apple a backup plan and enable it to develop its own artificial intelligence (AI) search engine.

These behind-the-scenes initiatives indicate Apple is actively looking for ways to catch up with competitors like Google, Microsoft, and Meta in the rapidly changing AI landscape, even if the company’s WWDC 2025 keynote was rather silent on the subject.

A $14 billion financing round was just concluded by Perplexity. Any transaction that approaches that magnitude would constitute Apple’s most significant acquisition to date.

Although Apple has recently made billion-dollar transactions for Intel Corp.’s modem unit and a stake in Chinese ride-sharing company DiDi, the $3 billion acquisition of Beats in 2014 remains the company’s largest transaction to date.

  • On iOS, Perplexity AI Launches an AI Voice Assistant

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed on 24 April that AI’s voice assistant would be available on its iOS app. Perplexity presents a competitive alternative to Apple’s redesigned Siri assistant, which is powered by Apple Intelligence.

Previously, the update was only available to Android users. While announcing the news, Srinivas stated on X that anyone may ask it to play anything, including favourite music, podcasts, and difficult-to-find videos.

For example, playing the video of Katy Perry kissing the ground after falling from the rocket, the Donald Trump version of Baby Shark, or the podcast in which Andreessen talks with Lex about browsers.

Additionally, it can send emails using Apple Mail or set up meetings using Apple Calendar, though Srinivas notes that the functionality is still a little “janky”. Furthermore, the AI assistant can arrange a cab trip from Uber and search for a restaurant you want to visit.

How to Operate the New Feature?

Users can click the microphone button to begin speaking as soon as the program opens. Even when they are not using the app, users can still communicate with the voice assistant. Furthermore, unlike Apple Intelligence, which is limited to iPhone 15 Pro models and later, the software is compatible with slightly older iPhone models, such as the iPhone 13.

The assistant still lacks ChatGPT’s ability to access the phone camera and provide context for a photo. Additionally, it lacks the ability to set alarms, silence notifications, or access iPhone settings.

Additionally, Srinivas told users that after turning on voice mode, it takes three to four seconds to connect with the assistant; however, they are aiming to reduce this time. He pointed out that, similar to how people use Siri, he can set his iPhone’s action button to Perplexity Voice Mode so he can utilise this without opening the programme.

According to recent sources, as Apple reorganises its leadership, the new Siri has been further postponed until 2026.

More and More big Companies Opting for AI

Big businesses are setting the example as organisations begin to implement administrative reforms intended to create future value from emerging AI. Organisations are starting to take actions that have a direct impact on their bottom line, such as reworking procedures as they use gen AI and assigning senior leaders to crucial positions like managing AI governance, according to the most recent McKinsey Global Survey on AI.

The results also demonstrate that companies are hiring for new AI-related positions and retraining staff to take part in AI deployment as they attempt to reduce an increasing number of gen-AI-related hazards. Businesses with yearly sales of at least $500 million are evolving faster than smaller ones.

    India’s Growing Digital Economy

India’s digital economy, which accounted for 11.74% of the country’s GDP in 2022–2023 (INR 31.64 lakh crore, or USD 402 billion), has become a major driver of economic growth. The digital economy, which employs 14.67 million people (2.55% of the total), is almost five times more productive than the overall economy, as per the central government’s data. The core digitally enabled industries, which include ICT services and the production of computers, communication devices, and electronic components, accounted for 7.83% of GVA (Gross Value Added), with digital platforms and intermediates contributing an additional 2%.

Additionally, 2% of GVA was added by digitisation in conventional industries like retail, education, and BFSI, demonstrating the widespread influence of digital transformation. By 2029–2030, the digital economy is expected to surpass manufacturing and agriculture in terms of its contribution of GVA, reaching 20%. Rapid AI use, cloud services, and the emergence of global capability centres (GCCs), of which 55% are located in India, are important growth drivers. Multinational firms created GCCs as offshore hubs to offer a range of services to their parent companies, such as business process management, IT support, and research and development.

By incorporating AI-powered search into the Paytm app, Paytm is tackling this issue and empowering users to ask common enquiries, research subjects in their native tongue, and make wise financial choices. This invention strengthens digital literacy and reaffirms our dedication to advancing technology for an India powered by AI and smarter.

  • Perplexity AI Suggests a $300 Billion Strategy for TikTok

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has received a revised proposal from Perplexity AI that calls for the formation of a new firm that would combine Perplexity with TikTok’s US operations. The US government would be able to own up to 50% of the organisation under this new structure, according to an AP investigation. According to the source, the revised proposal, which was filed last week, expands upon a previous one that was given to ByteDance on January 18, the day before the US law that banned TikTok went into force.

The initial plan included a structure for combining Perplexity, a San Francisco-based company, with TikTok’s US operations and obtaining more capital from investors. The plan provides ByteDance with a compromise that permits it to keep some ties to TikTok without completely cutting them off. ByteDance would have to cede control to a board that is entirely based in the US, though.

According to the updated plan, upon an initial public offering (IPO) of at least $300 billion, the US government might purchase up to half of the new company’s shares. According to media reports, the US government would not be granted a seat on the company’s board or have voting rights over these government-owned shares.

Crucially, the deal states that the US business that ByteDance provided would not include TikTok’s secret technology, which forms the basis of the app’s content recommendation engine.

Trump Supporting Musk to Crack TikTok Deal

In the past, US President Donald Trump has spoken out in favour of Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchasing TikTok, proposing an innovative deal whereby the US government would control 50% of the company in return for operating licenses.

At a press briefing on January 21, Trump responded, “I would be, if he wanted to buy it, yes,” in response to a question regarding Musk’s potential interest in the platform. Additionally, he named Larry Ellison, the chairman of Oracle, adding, “I’d like Larry to buy it, too.”

    TikTok Restores Services in USA

Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement last week that he would restore TikTok’s access in the nation if he regained power, the app’s services were resumed. Due to a law citing national security, TikTok blocked its app for users in the United States.

President Donald Trump stated on 25th January that he was in discussions with several parties about purchasing TikTok and that he would probably make a decision regarding the future of the well-known app within the next 30 days.

    Growth of Perplexity AI

Over the previous 12 months, Perplexity AI has grown significantly. The company was valued at approximately $500 million at the beginning of 2024. By year’s end, the figure had risen to $9 billion. This expansion was greatly aided by the generative AI boom, as more investors recognised the potential of AI search tools as a significant threat to Google. Nevertheless, Perplexity hasn’t had an easy time. The business has occasionally been in the news for the wrong reasons due to criticism it has received for alleged plagiarism.

Perplexity Provides Free Subscriptions to IIT Madras Students
Perplexity offers free subscriptions to IIT Madras students, enhancing their access to AI-powered tools and resources for academic and research purposes.

  • Perplexity Offers IIT Madras Students Free Subscriptions

According to Aravind Srinivas, creator and CEO of Perplexity AI, the AI search engine offers its premium subscription plan to staff and students at his alma mater, IIT Madras, for free. All IIT Madras instructors, staff, and students, where the CEO completed his undergraduate studies, have received complimentary Perplexity Pro from the company. In an X post, Srinivas stated that he was “extremely excited to start there as the brand begins its expansion for Indian campuses.” This is consistent with remarks made by Srinivas in December 2024, in which he stated that he was amenable to “figuring out” an economic arrangement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to provide Perplexity Pro to Indian academics, faculty, and students.

He also met with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi last month to talk about the prospects for AI adoption in India and globally. Srinivas stated that he is prepared to devote $1 million personally and five hours per week to a “group of people” who will make India “great in the context of AI” in a different post on X on January 22. Srinivas added that he is prepared to personally invest $1 million (sic) and five hours per week in the most capable team that can achieve this at this moment to restore India’s greatness in the context of artificial intelligence. Think of this as a promise that is irrevocable. The team must open source the models under an MIT license and be as fixated on it as the DeepSeek team.

Investing 10 Million More in Indian Startups

The cofounder of Perplexity added that he would put an additional $10 million into the Indian business if it could “rigorously” outperform DeepSeek R1 on all metrics. Large language models (LLMs) have been created by the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, which is regarded as a serious rival to OpenAI. To compete with platforms like OpenAI-o1, DeepSeek introduced its newest reasoning models, DeepSeek-R1 and DeepSeek-R1-Zero, earlier this week with less than $4 million in funding.

Motivating the AI Sector of India

Pratyush Kumar, a cofounder of SarvamAI, an LLM maker with an Indic focus, responded to the Perplexity cofounder’s post by pitching his own firm. Aravind is creating sovereign models at @SarvamAI, a brand that combines deep reasoning with proficiency in the Indic language. I hope you will join this expedition! Kumar said. This occurs one day after Srinivas caused a stir in the Indian AI community by stating that Indian businesses had to concentrate on building their models from the ground up rather than optimising pre-existing basic models. Srinivas urged Indian businesspeople to demonstrate to the world that they can develop AI with ISRO-like capabilities, despite pointing out that training thinking models is expensive. He was alluding to the Indian space agency’s economical strategy.

  • The 12 Best Alternatives To ChatGPT

ChatGPT was launched by OpenAI in 2022 and registered 100 million users in mid-February of 2023. Here’s a look at how it progressed over the past few months.

ChatGPT was released to the public on November 30, 2022. It quickly gained popularity, reaching 1 million users in December, 1.5 million users on December 31st, 15.10 million in January, 1.20 million at January end, 15.50 million on February 1, and 100 million on February 15. The simple reason behind its popularity is that it is a powerful AI chatbot that can be used for many tasks. It can generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative and human way.

ChatGPT is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 foundational large language models and has been fine-tuned using supervised and reinforcement learning techniques. It is a great tool to have and very useful for students and teachers.

However, it is still in its early stages, and its ability to handle complex conversational scenarios is limited. While it can generate coherent and grammatically correct responses, it may struggle with understanding and responding to complex or nuanced questions. It also has limitations while interpreting user interface features such as buttons, menus, and links. This can make it challenging to use for customer service scenarios that require an understanding of these features.

Additionally, as an AI language model, ChatGPT is only as unbiased as the data it was trained on. If the training data contains biases or stereotypes, these may be perpetuated in the model’s responses. And it isn’t surprising that many such biased reactions came to light, mainly when they were related to the Conservatives and the Republican politicians in the UK and the United States.

A study titled “Danger in the Machine: The Perils of Political and Demographic Biases Embedded in AI Systems” was conducted by researchers at the Manhattan Institute (published on April 1, 2023), and it found that ChatGPT was more likely to generate positive responses to prompts about President Biden than President Trump. For example, when asked to write a poem about each president, ChatGPT’s poem about Biden was more positive and uplifting, while its poem about Trump was more negative and critical.

Also, when ChatGPT was asked to write a poem about a woman, it generated an optimistic poem. However, ChatGPT was more likely to induce a cynical poem when asked to do the same about a man.

However, despite these limitations, ChatGPT has shown to be a prevailing tool for natural language processing tasks and continues to evolve as new developments in AI research and technology emerge.

So, you might want to use a different chatbot if you are looking for a chatbot with specific features or benefits. You also might want to use a ChatGPT alternative if you are concerned about the privacy or security of your data. And that is why you must know what options are available for you to use.

    Finding New Alternatives

So here is a list of ChatGPT alternatives; there are several factors involved in the decision making like—

    1. Accuracy: Your chatbot of choice should be able to generate accurate and factual text.
    2. Fluency: It should be able to generate human-like text that is easy to read and understand.
    3. Creativity: Also, it should be able to generate creative and original text, as ChatGPT can.
    4. Flexibility: It should be able to be used for a variety of tasks like content writing, journalism, creative writing, education, etc.
    5. Privacy: It must protect the privacy and security of your data.
    6. Ease of use: The chatbot should be easy to use and set up.
    7. Cost: It should be affordable and easily accessible.
    8. Reputation: The chatbot should have a good reputation with other users. News of biasedness does not build trust in users, and users start looking for alternatives.

The best ChatGPT alternative for you will depend on your specific needs and requirements, but let’s see how these 12 alternatives are helpful:

    1. Google’s Gemini AI Chatbot
    2. Bing AI Chat
    3. Chatsonic
    4. YouChat
    5. Character.AI
    6. Semrush ContentShake AI

Claude, developed by Anthropic AI, is an AI chatbot and also the name of the underlying Large Language Models (LLMs) that power it. It is designed to have natural, text-based conversations and is particularly good at tasks such as summarization, editing, Q&A, decision-making, and more. Claude’s strength lies in its creativity and the style of writing that it adopts, which closely resembles that of a human being. Currently, Anthropic offers three models of Claude: Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Opus. Each version builds on the capabilities of the previous one, bringing it closer to human-like comprehension. One of the most impressive features of Claude is the maximum token length, which is a staggering 200,000 tokens, equivalent to approximately 150,000 words. To put that in perspective, the average book contains around 75,000 words, so you could theoretically paste in an entire book and prompt Claude to your heart’s content. But it’s not just books – you can also use Claude to analyze and perform tasks on lengthy excerpts of code, documents, and more.
