In this exclusive interview, StartupTalky connected with Ms. Kamakshi Mantri, Chief Strategy Officer at Mantri Developers Pvt. Ltd. With her expertise in retail, commercial, and hospitality sectors, she shares insights into their innovative approaches to boosting retail business at Mantri Square Mall. She also discusses their use of AI for personalised experiences and future trends in the industry. From the rise of hybrid shopping models to the integration of entertainment hubs, Mantri gives us a glimpse into how malls are evolving to meet changing consumer expectations.
StartupTalky: How are you planning to increase mallsâ retail business?
Ms. Mantri: At Mantri Malls, we have always valued our partnerships with retailers and work to support them through various initiatives, some of which include providing them with marketing support, hosting joint promotional events, and offering incentives to encourage innovative retail concepts.
We also introduced âShop & Earnâ, and give out assured gifts to every shopper, something which very few malls do at their own cost. This encourages the shopper to spend more, as the more you spend, the better gifts you qualify for as per the slabs. By fostering a collaborative environment, we aim to help our retail partners succeed and, in turn, boost the overall retail business at the mall.
StartupTalky: How are AI and data analytics helping the retail industry to grow?
Ms. Mantri: We have around 300+ brands associated with us across our 3 retail properties, and we are leveraging advanced technology and data analytics to understand customer preferences and tailor our offerings accordingly. By analysing shopping patterns and customer feedback, we can curate a more personalized shopping experience.
AI is transforming our marketing strategies by enabling more effective targeting and engagement. Through AI analytics, we can gain deeper insights into customer behaviour and preferences, allowing us to create more impactful marketing campaigns. AI also helps in drafting marketing collaterals â such as newsletters, emailers, creative ideas, etc. We have invested in advanced analytics to better understand our customers and optimize our offerings to meet their needs.
StartupTalky: What key market trends do you foresee shaping the retail estate industry in the next 3-5 years?
Ms. Mantri: The biggest trend that has been seen since COVID-19 is most of the new brands now launch online first, and if they have a successful run, then they expand to opening physical stores. Previously, the trend was reversed. This trend has helped us as mall management in leasing, as when someone approaches us, we can offer space to those who are doing well in the online market as it is a calculated risk for them since they would have already acquired a good target market.
We have brands who have chosen to open their first offline stores with us, such as DaMENSCH, and others such as The Souled Store, Mamaearth, Sugar, etc. who are having a successful run in the offline industry, after having proven their following online. Our footfall and their target market help us achieve the goal which is a win-win situation for both.
The second trend is the F&B category and entertainment now claims a bigger share as a category in every mall â for a mall to provide an improved experience along with shopping. Malls are no longer seen as just âshopping centresâ but also as entertainment hubs.
Keeping in line with this strategy, we welcomed our first nightclub & also one of Bengaluruâs largest, Sunburn Union at Mantri Avenue, spread over 30,000 sq ft. which is also Bengaluruâs first sunburn club. It received a roaring response from partygoers and youngsters alike.
We also welcomed Awesome Place, spread over 11,000 sq ft at Mantri Square, where toddlers and children can have fun with secured assistance and guidance. We are committed to creating immersive environments that combine entertainment, dining, and interactive activities. This trend will continue to shape the retail estate industry as malls evolve into social and lifestyle hubs.
As consumer preferences evolve, flexibility and adaptability in retail spaces will be crucial. We expect to see more modular and multifunctional spaces that can quickly adapt to changing trends and tenant needs. We are committed to creating dynamic spaces that can accommodate pop-up stores, seasonal events, and new retail concepts, ensuring we stay relevant and attractive to both retailers and customers.
Sustainability is becoming a key focus for the retail estate industry. In the coming years, we foresee a growing emphasis on eco-friendly practices, such as energy-efficient building designs, waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing. We are dedicated to implementing green initiatives that not only reduce our environmental footprint but also appeal to the environmentally conscious consumer.
StartupTalky: What tools and platforms do you find helpful for increasing footfall and execution processes?
Increasing footfall can be achieved through events, concerts, workshops, and classes. However, to stay competitive in the industry, leveraging tools and platforms is essential. Influencer marketing, offer promotions, loyalty programs, online presence, social media engagement, etc are the best and most helpful strategies to increase or rather bring maximum footfall.
StartupTalky: How do you strategise marketing efforts across the retail sectors at Mantri Developers, considering their unique challenges?
Identify the consumer, based on the customer surveys to understand the customers’ needs and the retailers’ wants. We bridge the gap in understanding what the current footfall wants in shopping and vice versa, by bringing in brands that will help in the increase of the footfall of the mall.
We are constantly conducting CSI (Customer Survey Index) & RSI (Retailer Survey Index) at ground levels to understand what is working and what is not. We believe in fostering strong connections with our community by organising community events â such as yoga/fitness workshops, concerts, dance classes, interactive programmes, movie launches by celebrities, etc.
StartupTalky: What opportunities do you see for growth and innovation in the near future in the retail sector?
From a retail point of view, the Hybrid model is the next big thing – which makes the most of combining online & offline shopping. A lot of apps have tried it and we are yet to see who would emerge as the market leader. Quick commerce such as Swiggy Instamart has launched Malls as a part of their app in the quick delivery feature which is another exciting development.
StartupTalky: How do you measure the success of your strategic initiatives, and what key performance indicators (KPIs) or metrics do you use to track the progress of your strategic goals?
We have identified a few KPIs to measure the performance of our malls. First is Footfall, which indicates how many people are visiting the mall. Second, the leasing rates â the higher the rate goes the more the demand for the space, which signifies that retailers want to do business in your mall. Third, Trading Density â which is the sales per sqft a brand is clocking in, how many low performers are there, and what support can be given to improve them. And final and most important is the customer & retailer survey index (CSI & RSI) âto understand what our shoppers & retailers feel about our services, and what initiatives are working vs what should be discontinued.

Whether it’s a private event on a boat along the Thames or another prestigious venue, I draw on my experience from working on cruise lines to ensure impeccable organization and service. This includes anticipating needs, coordinating logistics, and delivering a memorable dining experience that reflects their status and preferences.
Similarly, serving the Strictly Come Dancing crew at Elstree film studio presented its own set of challenges and rewards. Dr. Ryohei Mori, CEO of Green Science Alliance, a group company of Fuji Pigment Co., Ltd., has a rich academic and professional background that spans from the Kyoto Institute of Technology to Harvard Business School. Dr. Mori is dedicated to developing innovative materials and products to combat climate change.
In this interview, he shares insights into his journey, leadership lessons, and the groundbreaking work at Green Science Alliance aimed at creating a carbon-neutral, sustainable future.
StartupTalky: Could you share insights into your professional journey and experiences? Additionally, what drives and motivates your daily routines?
Dr. Mori: I went to Kyoto Institute of Technology and graduated in 1997 with a degree in Applied Biology. In 1999, I finished my master’s degree in science from Kyoto University, in Japan, followed by PhD in Engineering from Kyoto University. I also completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
I worked in Nissha Company and worked as a sales engineer and translator in Oulu Finland. Then I worked as a researcher at Fuji Pigment Co. Ltd, Japan, and became CEO in 2017.
I also established Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd. and the Quantum Materials Technology, and engage myself as the President of both companies.
Especially at the moment, I am focusing on the Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd. business. I try to research and develop cutting-edge materials and products based on materials synthesis engineering technology at a molecular level. When one creates new materials which is controlled and optimized at a molecular level, that material have a possibility to show significantly enhanced physical and chemical properties.
Based on this technology, I have developed various types of environmentally friendly products including biomass-based chemicals such as biodegradable plastic, next-generationtype rechargeable batteries, platinum-free (less) fuel cells, printable quantum dot solar cells, CO2 capture and utilization (artificial photosynthesis), etc.
My motivation is to establish a carbon-neutral, sustainable society with actual cutting-edge technology, in order to decrease CO2 emissions as well as mitigate climate change. These are the technology, products, and business for Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd.
StartupTalky: Reflecting on your extensive industry background, what standout lessons have you gained, and can you elaborate on your distinctive leadership style?
Dr. Mori: With my technical background, I can develop cutting-edge materials and products as I wrote above as Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd business. However, to develop such products and to sell those products are different issues. This development took many years although fortunately with the financial help of the base company which is Fuji Pigment Co., Ltd., I was able to achieve such cutting-edge products.
Therefore, as a leader, it is important to promote both ongoing profitable business and cutting-edge research at the same time, with different types of employees, who are interested in an already existing profitable business and who are interested in developing cutting-edge products.
StartupTalky: Dive into the core offerings of Fuji Pigment Group. Furthermore, shed light on the unique value propositions that individuals or businesses can anticipate from your services.
Dr. Mori: I would like to describe based on the Green Science Alliance business and not based on the Fuji Pigment business. I try to offer actual products and technology to create a sustainable, carbon-neutral society. Those are plant-natural biomass-based chemicals such as biodegradable plastics, biomass coating, biomass paint, etc⌠The main concept is to replace all petroleum-based chemical products with plant, natural biomass-based chemical products so that we can contribute to the decrease of CO2 emissions, and reduce plastic pollution.
In addition, by developing next-generation-type rechargeable battery (which could be cheaper and stronger than lithium-ion batteries), platinum-free (less) fuel cells, printable type quantum dot solar cells, CO2 capture and utilization (Artificial Photosynthesis), CO2 emission also could be decreased in order to slow down the climate change. I am also developing a quantum dot-based nano fertilizer, an anti-bacterial material for agriculture, and a water harvesting device from the air, based on metal-organic framework technology. By offering these cutting-edge technologies, individuals and businesses may get profit to build up a sustainable, carbon-neutral society.
StartupTalky: In navigating your role as a leader, what significant business challenges have you confronted, and what strategies did you employ to successfully overcome them? Also, balancing the preservation of company heritage with the imperative to innovate and adapt to change can be challenging. How do you manage this delicate equilibrium within your organization?
Dr. Mori: I would like to answer the above 2 questions in the following answer.
Performing cutting-edge research that does not produce revenue for a long time and promotes ongoing profitable business simultaneously. To keep a profitable business profitable is also difficult because if I concentrate on cutting-edge research too much, profitable businesses become non-profitable at the end. In order to overcome this issue, give up on making employees work on cutting-edge research and let them concentrate on already existing businesses. And make separate team members to work on cutting-edge research.
StartupTalky: Envisioning the future, could you elaborate on the destination you are steering towards in your professional journey?
Dr. Mori: Not only raw materials as a chemical company (B2B business) but also creating plant natural products for direct customers (B2C business). For example, we are selling some plant-natural resin-made bioplastic products, nail cosmetic products, etc⌠so that people can recognize our company.
Another example is the rechargeable battery. So far, we focused on supplying raw materials for rechargeable batteries. But now, we are preparing to manufacture some kind ofspecial rechargeable battery (Black Mass based recycled type rechargeable battery, which could be the first time in the world as a practical recycled type lithium-ion battery) as a B2C business.
By promoting both B2B and B2C business, I am planning to accelerate the business rapidly.
I am planning to make Green Science Alliance Co., Ltd. to be independent from Fuji Pigment Co., Ltd. by raising capital from investors. I have set up Green Science Alliance CCo., Ltd. branch offices in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, and Toronto, Canada, also preparing for a branch in Mexico. Planning to go public in a stock exchange market either at Nasdaq, or Tokyo, Japan.

As we work to make the Global AI Show and the Global Blockchain Show our flagship events, we have also launched our media ventures, Times of AI, dedicated to AI news, and Times of Blockchain, a premium crypto news website for the most authentic and timely information and news sourced from global teams. Additionally, we look forward to the growth prospects of our other segments like CryptoNewZ, Blockchain Marketing Ninja, and Blockchain Staffing Ninja, which are integral to our core business strategy and will continue to play vital roles in supporting our overall mission.

StartupTalky: What is the main focus of VAP Group’s signature event- the Global Blockchain Show happening in December 2024?
Mr. Parmar: The main focus of VAP Group’s signature event, the Global Blockchain Show happening in December 2024, is to create the ultimate networking event with a festival-like atmosphere. Unlike traditional conferences, this event dedicates two full days to extended networking and business discussions in a relaxed and engaging environment.
To enhance the experience, the event every hour will feature rapid-fire 10-minute talks from leading blockchain figures, providing concise and impactful insights and predictions for 2025, and ensuring the audience remains engaged.
The event also emphasizes accessibility and interaction with headliners, who will stay on the main floor to engage directly with attendees before and after their talks. The integrated expo and stage area allows for a seamless flow of information and interaction, with talks audible from anywhere in the venue, and the non-traditional expo setup encourages lively and meaningful interactions in a dynamic, rave-like environment.
A flexible agenda ensures that attendees can enjoy the event without worrying about missing key presentations due to overlapping schedules. Recognizing that a significant portion of business deals happen after hours, the event maximizes these opportunities, catering to preferences for after-party connections with statistics showing that 71% of business occurs after hours and 61% of attendees prefer these connections.
Positioned as the season finale of the global blockchain calendar, the Global Blockchain Show serves as a year-end wrap-up and a kick-start for 2025, offering fresh insights and strategies. To build buzz and community engagement, the event will leverage social media campaigns with hashtags like #TheBlockchainBlowout and #TheBlockchainSeasonFinale.
StartupTalky: What sets the Global Blockchain Show apart, and what’s your greatest achievement with it so far? How do you plan to ensure its success?
Mr. Parmar: The Global Blockchain Show sets itself apart with its unparalleled resilience and ability to attract a remarkable audience despite challenging circumstances. For instance, on the day of our event in Dubai, the city was hit by heavy rains and floods, yet we welcomed thousands of visitors. This turnout, even in adverse weather, speaks volumes about the event’s significance and the commitment of our attendees. Our greatest achievement so far is this extraordinary level of participation, alongside hosting some of the most eminent speakers and enthusiasts in the blockchain and AI fields, making the event a resounding success.
Visitors to the Global Blockchain Show had the unique opportunity to see the worldâs first AI humanoid robot, Sophia, who serves as the Official Ambassador of both the Global AI Show and the Global Blockchain Show. Witnessing Sophia live in actionâtalking and expressing human-like emotionsâwas a highlight for many attendees.

To ensure the continued success of the Global Blockchain Show, we are committed to listening to attendee feedback and continually enhancing the event experience. Our goal is to create a dynamic and engaging platform that not only informs and inspires but also fosters meaningful connections and innovations in the blockchain space.

Mr. Parmar: We have numerous success stories, but a particularly noteworthy example is our recent work on the Global Blockchain Show and the Global AI Show. These events were pivotal projects for VAP Group, showcasing our comprehensive capabilities in event management, marketing, PR, and conference production.
For both shows, we had the privilege of having Sophia, the robot, as our official brand ambassador. This not only added a unique and futuristic appeal to the events but also underscored our commitment to integrating advanced technology into our projects.
These events were entirely in-house endeavors. Our marketing team worked tirelessly to create compelling campaigns that reached a global audience. Meanwhile, our event management and conference production teams meticulously planned and executed every detail, from logistics to speaker line-ups, ensuring a seamless experience for all attendees.
Despite facing a severe natural calamity in Dubai, our efforts paid off. The events attracted a substantial number of attendees, demonstrating the resilience and dedication of our team. The success of these debut events was not just measured in footfall but also in the positive feedback and engagement we received from participants and stakeholders.
Following this success, we are excited to announce the second edition of the Global Blockchain Show and the Global AI Show, scheduled for December. We are confident that these upcoming events will build on the success of the first editions and continue to set new benchmarks in the industry.

Embrace innovation and adaptability by staying up-to-date with technological advancements and market trends. Build a strong, diverse team that is passionate about blockchain. Prioritize security with robust measures and regular audits to establish user trust. Stay informed about regulatory compliance to avoid legal issues and focus on providing a seamless user experience. Ensure you have a sustainable business model with a clear path to profitability.
Finally, remain persistent and resilient, learning from failures and iterating quickly. By adhering to these principles, startups can build strong foundations and thrive in the competitive blockchain industry.
In this exclusive interview, StartupTalky talks with Saurabh Bothra, CEO and Certified Yoga Instructor at Habuild. Saurabh combines his passion for yoga with business to help people develop healthier habits and create supportive communities.
Through Habuild, his goal is to make yoga accessible to everyone and promote sustainable living. Join us as Saurabh shares his journey, the challenges he faced, and his vision for a healthier world on this International Yoga Day.
StartupTalky: What inspired you to combine your passion for yoga with entrepreneurship to create Habuild?
Mr. Bothra: Habuild wasnât intentional – it was born from a realisation.
The lockdown was an eye-opener for me. Watching my mom tirelessly manage the household made me wonder if she ever took a moment for herself. I realised many women, like my mom, mistakenly see household chores as sufficient exercise. This was our âeurekaâ moment at Habuild.
But I instantly realised that the only way to encourage more people to practise yoga is to help them cultivate the habit and not quit. Yoga is a medium to reach out to the community, but our bigger goal will always be around helping them stick with whatever they start.
StartupTalky: Could you share a highlight from your journey as a certified Yoga instructor that significantly shaped your approach to wellness?
Mr. Bothra: One key realisation has significantly shaped my approach to wellness – motivation is not enough!
People are aware of the benefits of taking certain actions for their health, and these benefits often increase motivation. However, while the focus is too much on the results, one extremely important thing goes unnoticed – THE POWER OF CONSISTENCY.
Thatâs when I understood that building habits is more important than just having motivation. This insight shaped my approach to wellness, focusing on helping people create lasting habits rather than just short-term goals.
Saurabh Bothra Certified Yoga Instructor and CEO, Habuild
StartupTalky: How did you start the initiative to connect 2.4 million people to yoga for 21 days, and what impact did it have?
Mr. Bothra: Connecting 2.4 million people to yoga for 21 days was never our initial aim. Initially, we offered only free sessions, which later transitioned into paid ones. During the second week of COVID, we went back to offering free sessions before switching to paid again. This approach worked exceptionally well in terms of referrals and reaching more people.
We realised that in India, the freemium model is incredibly effective. The principle of “pehle istemal karo fir vishwas karo” builds trust. In India, people need to experience something before they understand its value.
StartupTalky: How does Habuild approach habit-building through yoga and meditation, and what strategies have you found most effective?
Mr. Bothra: I talk about habits in three simple terms:
Make it Simple: Break down routines into manageable steps.
Create a Support System: Surround yourself with a supportive community.
Trust in Yourself: This is extremely important if you seek lasting change.
By focusing on these three simple steps, we’ve found that our approach to habit-building resonates deeply with our community. It makes yoga and meditation easier and helps everyone feel more confident and accomplished.
StartupTalky: Can you explain Habuild’s commitment to environmental sustainability, such as the tree-planting initiative based on referrals?
Mr. Bothra: In 2024, the world witnessed one of the most intense and longest heat waves in the past 100-120 years. At Habuild, we believe that a healthy planet is essential for our well-being. This is why sustainability is at the heart of our mission. We asked our participants to invite 5 friends and we will plant a tree on their behalf.
While planting 50,000 trees may not directly impact us, it’s about each of us doing our part, no matter how big or small, to create positive change and inspire others to do the same.
StartupTalky: What are the common challenges people face in sticking to wellness routines, and how can they overcome them?
Mr. Bothra: A common issue people face is going all in at once or doing nothing at all.
While motivation is great, it needs to be paired with consistency. It’s essential to take things one step at a time and not rely solely on motivation. Start on a day when you’re least motivated and do as much as you are capable of. When you commit to doing a small amount consistently every day, you will see the results. This approach helps build lasting habits and ensures steady progress.
StartupTalky: How does Habuild’s program for diabetes use yoga and lifestyle changes to tackle health issues in India?
Mr. Bothra: Diabetes is a lifestyle issue. While many rely on medications which suppress symptoms, it’s crucial to tackle the root cause. At Habuild, we focus on improving lifestyles, starting with yoga. It’s not just about poses – yoga is a way of living that aims for a balanced lifestyle.
Once your diet is in place, your metabolism is better, your mind is healthy – you will develop a potential to tackle or manage lifestyle disorders like diabetes.
Additionally, we also offer resistance training, Habuild Kitchen, and diabetic-friendly recipes to support diabetes management.
StartupTalky: As both an entrepreneur and a wellness advocate, how do you balance these two roles? What lessons have you learned from integrating wellness into a business model?
Mr. Bothra: Balancing these two roles is something I havenât done before – everythingâs been new to me.
And starting afresh brings stress, discomfort, and quite a lot of challenges. But I believe itâs a learning journey. I handle difficulties by practising what I preach.
Yoga has been my rock – it keeps me grounded and resilient. Balancing business and wellness is easier when I stay true to my yoga lifestyle. I always tell my students to focus on the process, not the results. The same rule applies to me – it makes the journey less challenging and more rewarding.
StartupTalky: What are your future plans and goals for Habuild, particularly in expanding its impact in wellness and yoga?
Mr. Bothra: Our goal at Habuild is simple – do as much as we can. I often repeat during our sessions, ‘jitna ho sake karte raho’ – it’s our mantra. This applies to both me and our organisation. We’re committed to making a difference in people’s lives.
Our focus is not solely on achieving specific milestones or targets but on consistently taking action to positively impact people’s lives. The milestones we achieve along the way are considered to be the by-products of sustained efforts and dedication.
StartupTalky: Can you share a personal story that shaped your perspective on the power of yoga and wellness in entrepreneurship?
Mr. Bothra: As a yogi, I’ve learned the importance of having a balanced life and a flexible approach. Applying this to my business, I strive to maintain a balance between ambition and playfulness at work. It’s one thing to be flexible on a yoga mat, but the benefits of yoga extend far beyond physical flexibility. Yoga has taught me to be mentally flexible, better preparing me for the plot twists in this journey.

In the spirit of World Environment Day, StartupTalky presents an exclusive interview with Hisham Mundol, Chief Advisor at Environmental Defense Fund, India. Explore his expertise as he discusses India’s sustainable growth, EDF’s impactful initiatives in climate action, and the crucial role of businesses and individuals in protecting our environment.
Gain valuable insights on environmental challenges and solutions, inspiring corporate action, and empowering the next generation of climate leaders. Join us in celebrating World Environment Day with this enlightening conversation.
StartupTalky: How can India ensure it grows economically while still protecting our environment?
Mr. Mundol: India needs to grow. That is non-negotiable. That growth needs energy. Increasing the share of renewable energy in our energy systems is the first priority. The second is to foster innovation to drive circularity. Circularity is about recycling, but so much more. It also includes more efficient use of resources as well as energy efficiency. Climate tech and climate policy are also essential for Indian industry to make money by going green.
StartupTalky: What are some amazing ways EDF is helping India fight climate change and pollution, making a real difference in people’s lives?
Mr. Mundol: Across different sectors, Environmental Defense Fundsâs (EDF) efforts are aligned to support the countryâs economic development â while stabilising the climate and providing a healthy environment. Our approach provides catalytic support in four distinct strategic areas. These include: (1) enhancing sustainable livelihoods in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries to achieve the triple win of improved incomes, secured yields, and protected climate; (2) advancing corporate action to generate shareholder value through sustainable business operations; (3) supporting government capacity in areas like carbon pricing; and (4) helping India balance economic growth and environmental sustainability imperatives.
StartupTalky: How can businesses and the government come together as a team to safeguard our environment for future generations?
Mr. Mundol: Past examples where business and government have come together are instructive to how this can happen. Light Emitting Diode (or LED) bulbs are both longer-lasting and more energy-efficient than conventional lighting. The government incentivised production and companies responded by scaling up volumes which brought down prices. Governments worked with the industry by directing public procurement, and industry responded by marketing LED bulbs to other consumers. LED bulbs are now a multi-billion dollar industry in India. This kind of cohesion is what is needed.
StartupTalky: Could you share an example of a time when EDF worked hand-in-hand with local communities or businesses in India to solve an environmental challenge?
Mr. Mundol: EDF has equipped 40,000 farmers with a new tool to manage nitrogen fertiliser use â and save costs. Nitrogen is essential to crop production, but too little reduces crop yields and depletes soils, and too much accelerates climate change, degrades air and water quality, and increases costs for both farmers and governments. EDF created the N-Balance tool to help farmers, governments, and food companies to determine how much fertiliser is efficiently needed on a given plot for a given crop. N-Balance can help farmers save INR 500â2,500 (about US$6â30) per agricultural season for households which is consequential as their average monthly income is approximately INR 10,000 (about US$120).
In 2023, EDF worked with Samagra Shikshan Evam Vikas Sansthan in Bihar and Syngenta Foundation India in Maharashtra to pilot this tool. We expect these pilots to not only reduce farmersâ costs and optimise government spending, but also encourage other farmers and organisations to adopt the tool in different states.
StartupTalky: What are the biggest environmental problems India faces right now, and what can we do about them?
Mr. Mundol: The two biggest challenges are heat and water. Increasing temperatures are caused by greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and shorter life but higher-warming gases like methane and nitrous oxide). The most effective carbon sink we have is our forest and biodiversity and we should secure these. On methane and nitrous oxide, there are solutions with proven science and viable economics. For instance, reducing methane emissions from the oil & gas sector is the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to decarbonise.
Water management should be a strategic national priority. In particular, we need an ambitious and science-based plan to manage groundwater â on which agriculture is majorly dependent but is under severe stress.
StartupTalky: How can India switch to clean energy faster, and how can EDF help?
Mr. Mundol: Indiaâs energy system is transitioning from a conventional fuels-based power system to one where half of energy comes from renewable sources. The transition has significant technical, economic, social, and environmental impacts. Renewable energy has significant advantages but also comes with unique constraints like weather, land availability, and lack of flexibility on when power generation can happen and when it cannot.
State governments need energy modelling capacity to factor in these complexities. EDF recently launched a made-in-India, open-source, transparent, energy transition model â the Indian Zero Carbon Pathways (IDEEA) in partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru and Global Change Program at Jadavpur University (GCP-JU) in Kolkata.
StartupTalky: Why is it important for businesses to care about the environment, and how can they make a positive impact while still being successful?
Mr. Mundol: Very simple. There is money to be made in responsible business! It raises revenues and builds brands and it improves margins. It protects against risk. It attracts and retains talent.
There also happens to be real and big downside if they do not care. The history of the business sector is littered with examples of giant companies that fell by the wayside and entire sectors being upturned by those that did not keep up.
StartupTalky: What strategies do you use to inspire leaders and companies to care deeply about the environment?
Mr. Mundol: The best strategy is to showcase leaders and companies who have done the right thing as far as the environment is concern. A visionary State government is the best voice to inspire and inform action by other State governments. A progressive company is the surest way of inspiring (and indeed perspiring) competitors to follow suit. We want those who act on climate change to serve as lighthouses for their peers.
StartupTalky: Could you share some exciting upcoming projects EDF has planned in India?
Mr. Mundol: Climate change is both the environmental crisis and economic opportunity of the century. By adopting sustainable business practices, companies have a significant opportunity to create shareholder value â though achieving this requires authentic, ambitious, and concerted action by the corporate sector.
EDFâs Climate Corps programme is helping to address this challenge by cultivating the next generation of climate leadership in India. By recruiting, training, and embedding post-graduate students in leading companies and organisations, the programme seeks to support businessesâ efforts to meet Indiaâs development and climate objectives and develop a pipeline of talented professionals equipped with knowledge and skills that will be essential in Indiaâs growing green economy.
In 2023, EDF placed nearly 30 Climate Corps fellows at 13 large national and multinational corporations to support sustainability and environmental projects at top companies including Larsen & Toubro, Tata Steel, Zomato, and others.
StartupTalky: What advice would you give to young people who dream of making a positive impact on the environment here in India?
Mr. Mundol: First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring and dreaming. The climate and environment are the most defining issues for the planet. There is so much you can do. If it is a career, sustainability is going to be one of the top career options for the next several decades. If it is individual action, every little action adds up. So many of the most amazing changes have come through one person doing one right thing. Lastly, Iâd say, stay optimistic. This is tough, but we will make it through to the other side.

StartupTalky: Could you explain in simple terms what AgriVijay does? What are your main goals as a company?
Mr. Panjwani: AgriVijay is India’s first curated Marketplace & Agtech Climate Action Social Enterprise of Renewable & Green Energy products for Farmers & Rural households helping them increase their savings and income along with fighting Climate Change by bringing all products in solar, biogas, thermal, wind & green energy – electric under one roof and with an Energy Advisory Recommendation approach where farmer’s energy & agriculture needs are understood coupled with waste availability at their end before products are recommended, sold, financed and deployed as an ‘End to End’ solution provider for last mile.
With the help of a dedicated AI-enabled Whatsapp Chatbot, Website, Call Centre in the local languages, Field Sales/Technical Team & offline Franchise Business Model at the village level known as Renewable Energy Stores making Renewable & Green Energy products – Accessible, Available & Affordable aligned with UN SDG’s on rural grounds coupled with benefits such as Free Insurance, Long Term Warranty, Assured After Sales Service, EMI / Financing Facility at subsidised Interest Rate helping Farmers & Rural households Energy & Financially Independent with increased savings & income along with contributing to the Global Climate Action movement.
At AgriVijay, we are leading the largest climate action movement with a vision to onboard 1 million farmers and rural households as renewable and green energy producers and consumers, aiming to reduce 1 million tons of GHG/CO2 emissions by 2030.
AgriVijay Products
StartupTalky: How does AgriVijay help farmers and rural households? Could you provide some examples of the products and services you offer?
Mr. Panjwani: Farmers suffer from post-harvest losses & most of them are also dependent on fossil fuels such as diesel to run their diesel gensets in order to run their electric water pumps, milking machines, etc. along with firewood for cooking by the rural women. They also have the availability of animal/food/agri waste which goes unharnessed in the form of energy but impacts Climate Change with GHG/CO2 emissions.
We are the 3rd GHG emitter as a nation. Also, if a farmer wants to switch to Renewable Energy to solve these problems there is no dedicated marketplace or store in the village where his energy needs are understood & product is recommended based on his pocket. There is no Knowledge insemination or education around various renewable energy products & their benefits in solar, biogas, thermal, wind, and other green energy products such as electricity. These products are neither available at the village level nor accessible hence becoming unaffordable for last-mile consumers.
AgriVijay brings 45+ companies that are esteemed partners with their 200+ innovations on the platform today in solar, biogas, and green energy – electric, agritech & organic coupled with their âEnd to Endâ solution with their bundled package making them different from traditional dealer-distributor model for farmers & rural households.
StartupTalky: How does AgriVijay contribute to fighting climate change? Can you share any specific impact metrics or success stories?
Mr. Panjwani: AgriVijay has impacted 6000+ farmers & rural households lives in its 4 years of existence with their 80+ Renewable Energy Stores having an outreach of 15,00,000 farmers in 350 villages having abated 10,000 tons of GHG/CO2 emissions along with mitigating 73,000 kgs of post-harvest losses mitigated with technologies like Solar Dryer & Solar Refrigeration.
AgriVijay also spearheaded the mission by treating 1,64,250 Kgs of animal waste replacing 59,000 kgs of firewood with clean cooking fuel such as Biogas producing 3.28 litres of lakhs of liquid organic digested bio-slurry replacing chemical fertilisers usage on fields by farmers. AgriVijay is becoming a leader in solar having 6.57 KWH lakhs of clean energy being produced while irrigating 500+ acres of farmlands with increased savings and income of INR 17.5 lakh.
Case Study Mr. Shahabuddin:
Mr. Shahbuddin is a small vegetable farmer in Ajmer, Rajasthan who has been investing INR 15,000 to 20,000 every month in diesel/electricity for irrigating his farms. He reached out to AgriVijay for a solution where our Team recommended & installed a 5 hp Solar Water Pump. Today after 2.5 years he has not only saved INR 15,000 to 20,000 every month but also has abated around 10 tons of CO2 emissions with his Solar Water Pump and has received an ROI in 12 months itself. He also enjoys Free Insurance against theft & Long-term warranty of 5 years on Pump & Controller which is an AgriVijay advantage.
Case Study MGNREGA Mr. Shailesh:
He is a small dairy farmer in the District Panchayat of Dadra & Nagar Haveli where his wife used to cook on firewood and with the help of MGNREGA & AgriVijay Team the firewood was replaced with a clean cooking digester producing Biogas where they cook for 2-3 hours every day by feeding 35-40 Kgs of cow dung mixed with water also getting 70 liters of rich organic liquid bio-slurry to be used in farms enriching soil organically. The Biogas digester which costs about INR 40,000 comes with a complete package of cookstove, pipeline, inlet, and outlet tanks and with AgriVijay advantage it comes with free delivery & installation. The digestor also mitigates 5 tons of GHG emissions annually with an ROI of 12 months replacing firewood & chemical fertilizer bringing monthly savings of INR 2500 to INR 3,000 for rural households.
Case Study Mr. Vitthal Ranjane:
Mr. Vitthal Ranjane With a 3HP Solar Water Pump
Mr. Vitthal Ranjane – He is an active vegetable farmer in Varoshi Village in the Satara district of Maharashtra who was spending INR 15,000 every month on Diesel to run his genset in order to run an electric water pump for irrigation and replaced it with a 3 HP Solar Water Pump bringing immense savings along with reducing emissions from diesel. He also stated that he got better returns for his ginger in the market after using solar irrigation as earlier he used to get INR 13-14 per kg while now he gets INR 100 per kg with solar irrigated ginger on his farms bringing increased income.
Case Study Mr. Harshal Mali:
An active Onion Chiku farmer from Palghar village in Maharashtra was recommended a Solar Dryer with Electric Backup to minimize post-harvest losses and also generate income out of the wastage of the produce at his end.
Our happy customer Mr. Harshali Mali explains and quotes, âThe quality and nutrient content of the produce is better than the conventional drying it is also affordable as compared to an electric dryer. It is very useful for seashore areas where humidity content is high. It controls humidity maintains moisture to the required extent and dries products perfectly. I use it for products like Sapota (Chiku) which usually takes 3 days to dry but it dries up in only 1 day using a solar dryer. I am now able to save INR 8,000-10,000 per month.â
He got his ROI in just 8 months and with AgriVijay’s advantage, he got the dryer delivered and installed to his farm along with Free Insurance against theft and Natural Damage coupled with a long-term warranty assured after-sales service by AgriVijay.
Case Study Mr. Sunil Rawatale:
Mr. Sunil wanted to open an e-Mitra centre with the help of BAIF where he can become a facilitator to the common man, offering all payment methods such as cash, net banking, and credit/debit cards. Further, enabling the users by reducing the requirement of document upload with various application forms by verifying data online. AgriVijay Team installed a Solar Inverter with a Printer to help him become Independent due to the fluctuations and challenges in electricity due to the hilly areas of Nandurbar District near Toranmal village in Maharashtra and a tribal belt.
StartupTalky: What sets AgriVijay apart from other renewable energy providers in India? What makes your approach unique or innovative?
Mr. Panjwani: If you analyse AgriVijay is a kind of Amazon of Renewable & Green Energy Products for farmers and rural households that are also without an app and actively working online with a website, AI chatbots along with offline Renewable Energy Stores. Being an âEnd to Endâ solution provider bundled with benefits like Free Insurance against theft & damage from Natural Calamities, EMI/Financing facility, Long Term Warranty & Assured After Sales Service makes AgriVijay unique in the value proposition.
The moat is however the expertise across sectors the AgriVijay team brings in where at one they are helping startups & companies reach the last mile with demand generation with their omnichannel touch points while at one end they just do not recommend the product/solution to the farmer and rural household but also do the delivery and installation makes it a one-stop shop for their energy & agriculture needs.

We replaced firewood and chemical fertilizer in 15 rural households with Clean Cooking Fuel – Biogas and Organic Fertilizer – Bioslurry using flexible biodigesters which are produced by treating animal waste. This initiative was implemented in the Reengus and Ajmer regions of Rajasthan. Rural women and their families now have access to healthy, smokeless cooking practices with clean fuel along with additional financial savings of about Rs 2000/ month per Family. It saves time spent on collecting and cooking using firewood which is now given to their children, household, or other economic activities.
Project 3: MGNREGA- Installation of Biogas – Digesters In Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
AgriVijay got an opportunity to work with the MGNREGA, District Panchayat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, where we executed a pilot project of installing a biogas digester of 2 mÂł at a rural household of a dairy farmer in Silvassa. A biogas digester can produce clean cooking fuel â biogas â which is sufficient for cooking purposes for a 3â4-member rural household (2â3 hours of daily cooking), reducing dependency on firewood and LPG.
It also produces 60â70 liters of organic bio-slurry, replacing chemical fertilizer and enriching soil health. The biogas digester, which costs about INR 40,000, comes with a complete package including a cookstove, pipeline, inlet, and outlet tanks, and with the AgriVijay advantage, it comes with free delivery and installation.
