De Space – How It All Started?

De Space story started when the founders completed their home interiors. It so happened that people praised their designs and that’s when they realized it has a huge potential. On doing some further research, they understood the Bangalore interior design market is highly unorganized with local contractors ruling it and consumers who are unaware of the details often end up spending money on what they were not even aware of.

As a result, they spoke to a lot of homeowners and figured that the consumers faced issues such as non-transparency, delays, unskilled labour and would love to hire someone who would give them a turnkey solution without them being involved in the operational aspects. This indicated a clear gap in the interior designing market in terms of professionalism and the duo decided to do their bit in filling up this gap.

    De Space – User Acquisition

When De Space interiors Bangalore, got its first project the co-founders never had a concrete plan for reaching the 100th client. “It was an idea that we had tried and decided to stay open for learning and ensure we make necessary changes with every project that we execute. This approach of ours enabled us to climb the ladder slowly and build on our clientele” Says the founder duo.

The company doesn’t advertise its interior offerings. They believe that their clients are the strongest assets and brand evangelists. Also with their core focus being on client satisfaction and transparency, it has helped them to create a strong word of mouth, which has resulted in a substantial increase in their clientele. In the year 2018-19, Despace has done five new projects that came from the existing clients which are surely a testament to the kind of service that de-space offers.

    De Space – Startup Challenges

It’s a known fact that any organization cannot be huge with the sole efforts of its founding team. It requires an extremely strong team of people who believe in the vision of the founders and walk on the same path as theirs. Like any other company,  De Space interior designs also faced the challenge of having the right set of people supporting them.

The founders also noticed a gap in the high-quality interiors market which was finding skilled labour in the industry. They spent a lot of time finding the right resources and getting people on board in order to ensure client satisfaction.

Hence, in the early years of inception, they decided not to grow exponentially and rather focused on creating a team that would help the founders to scale while not diluting the principles of high-quality space interiors services.

While it might have made our journey slower, it helped us to ensure we built a strong foundation, and it’s that foundation today, that has helped us to reach where we are today. We strongly feel one is known for the quality of work she has done, not the quantity of work – said the founders proudly.

With residential units size reducing regularly, the real challenge lies in doing justice to the space available, something that d space interiors intend to capitalize on.

    De Space – Competitors

There are quite a few major competitors in the market who have spread out their operations pan India eventually. The company does not compete with the providers that give the customers standard factory-made products as part of their interior solutions. The De Space competitors are FHD Group India, Dreamspace India, Asense Interiors.

    Bonito Designs – Products/Services

Bonito Designs is a professional design firm started by young entrepreneurs building on design obsession and a vision that every home deserves to be a designer home and every person deserves designer living. It is a design talent powerhouse with high caliber design experts from across Indian and International design schools.

The startup has a team of 200+ passionate individuals. They have a cumulative experience of 400 man-years of design & delivery. They have delivered 1500 homes in the last 7 years across the city of Bengaluru while garnering praises, awards, and experience across various typologies, sizes and themes.

The company offers a full-service from conceptualization to design, planning, visualization, and project management with utmost care of personalization and quality delivery.

Bonito Designs – How it Started?

The inspiration for starting Bonito came from the will to bring stories into empty spaces that you will call your home. Many stories were heard at that time back in 2012 where customers looking to get their home done had lost the money they had invested or received designs that were totally different from what they were promised. This had brought about a sense of responsibility to help out in streamlining the process for a better outcome and authenticity in the industry.

The full spectrum service going from idea to execution is a series of services stitched together to bring in a finished product to the customer – that is a loving home. It requires immense passion and willingness on part of all the partaking vendors and contractors to bring in the enthusiasm to walk the mile and dive into the details that are needed to make justice to the appetite the customer demands.

The identity of Bonito Designs has always gone through a shape-shift at a crucial juncture in the journey of the company.

The most recent change in the identity marks the lift-off of the company where it starts taking off from being just another startup to marking its territory in broader markets.

Bonito Designs – Business Model and Revenue Model

The company is in the business of realizing dream homes for consumers. Every home begins with a dream and they exist to give life to it. They build aesthetically beautiful homes that our consumers aspire to live in.

Bonito Designs revenue model is generated by a fee-for-service revenue for providing end to end interior design services to their consumers for their residential homes. It is divided into three phases – design, production and execution.

    Bonito Designs – Startup Launch

In 2012, when the founding team finally got around to establishing the company, they had a small start where everyone on the team was required to be hands-on with every project received. They launched Bonito in Bangalore – based out of a small office space where most of the team worked out of day in and out.

It was a factory cum a small makeshift office that didn’t even have a bathroom. The love of their customers and the word of mouth advocated by their customer family drove them to jump for larger avenues. Later on, the startup wanted to reach new audiences and started their YouTube channel which is to date most referred to by any new customer.

Bonito Designs – User Acqusition and Growth

“Our values and guiding principles such as honesty and transparency have been key to gain initial traction. In an industry that is plagued by opaque operations and accountability, we were able to garner great confidence by simply being direct with what could be done and what couldn’t.”, said Sameer AM.

Customers appreciated the directness with which the company did business. They took these values above the business itself and at times it meant rejecting business in certain cases. The word of mouth publicity along with the popularity of Youtube channel has been an immense push to take their business to the next level.

The recent couple of quarters have demanded a totally different approach to increase their customer base. It required a combination of building up of various verticals such as partnering with realty networks and agents to convert them into evangelists of the brand and that too has added to the business’s intake capacity of the customers.

As of date, the company continue to experiment and explore various ways in which they can increase the engagement with their customer base and they believe it is only going to get stronger than before. In the last one year, the company has grown tremendously in terms of size of revenues, no of homes delivered, and employees (from 65 to 220+).

    How was Hidecor Started

Hidecor was founded in 2015 with a vision to become a one-stop solution for workspaces designs. With intense research on workspaces around the globe,  the Hidecor team realized that the Indian workspace market was not so organized due to a multi-channel approach. So they decided to solve the issue of time v/s cost to enterprises with their transparent operations model, where the team works with manufacturers directly for all the materials thereby cutting corners of dealers or multiple contractors involved which saves huge costs to the client. With the use of technology like BIM, VR, and Revit, they successfully address the challenge of time taken for the delivery of the project.

With a focused approach to making agile and futuristic workspaces, the company wants to be a partner for all enterprises right from the inception of them finding the space.  They also help their clients to do a preliminary analysis of multiple parameters of any workspaces as an added value factor to them.

    Hidecor – User Acquisition

When Hidecor started, they focussed more on networking, leveraging Ex-Corporate Contacts and ensuring that their initial projects are exceptional to create a contagious effect of word of mouth marketing. Also, referrals were cashed upon heavily and continue to be their biggest source of leads to date.

We invest in our team and believe in working with dedicated partners and growing together. Such partnerships have worked quite well for us. Also, the brand-building can’t be done in a day, so we try to keep things as organic as possible. – says Hidecor founder and CEO, Anantha V R.

    Hidecor – Startup Challenges

One of the main roadblocks in the way for Hidecor was that the industry, contractors, laborers, manufacturers, and dealers are very unorganized with an imbalance in pricing and timelines. With the help of deep knowledge on 10000+ products across various segments, they bring in the standardization of pricing which helps the client to save a huge cost.

Also, the idea of Hidecor is to design the space with maximum utility. A vibrant office isn’t necessarily optimized, especially in terms of space utilization, which in turn can translate into recurring expenditure from the client’s pocket. Hence Hidecor focuses on creating more meaningful spaces with at par industry standards of space utility with world-class designs.

    Hidecor – Competitors

This a fairly competitive market. Well, anyone who thinks can design an office space without taking subject matter opinion like Hidecor is competition.

    Hidecor – Growth

    • Current locations- Bangalore & Hyderabad.
    • Year on Year growth – over 100%
    • Revenue – INR 30 Crores
    • Clients – TITAN, Decathlon, Bigbasket, Fluke, Novotech, Mitra Biotech, Ashirvad Aliaxis, Furlenco, OneCoWork, Grabhouse, ShopX, etc.
