  • Donald Trump Invites 5 Indian-Origin CEOs to White House Dinner

    US President Donald Trump to host distinguished group of IT CEOs to a dinner at the White House. Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and a dozen other leaders from the largest tech and artificial intelligence companies are expected to be on the guest list, the White House said.

    Trump recently tiled over the green lawn in the Rose Garden, where the dinner would be hosted. The tables, chairs, and umbrellas there are quite identical to those at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

    Meeting with the New Artificial Intelligence Education Task Force

    After the event, First Lady Melania Trump will head the White House’s new Artificial Intelligence Education task committee. The task force conference, which aims to establish AI education for American youth, is anticipated to include at least some of the people who attended the dinner.

    In a statement, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said that the White House’s Rose Garden Club is the most popular spot in Washington, if not the entire world.     Google founder Sergey Brin and CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and founder Greg Brockman, Oracle CEO Safra Catz, Blue Origin CEO David Limp, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, TIBCO Software chairman Vivek Ranadive, Palantir executive Shyam Sankar, Scale AI founder and CEO Alexandr Wang, and Shift4 Payments CEO Jared Isaacman are all scheduled to attend the dinner, according to the White House.

    Trump nominated Isaacman, an associate of Musk, to head NASA but later withdrew the candidacy around the time of his split from Musk. Trump referred to Isaacman as “totally a Democrat” and stated that Musk was angry with him because of the revocation of the candidacy.

    Musk Missing from the Guest List

    Elon Musk, who was formerly a strong ally of Trump and was given the responsibility of leading the government-cutting Department of Government Efficiency, is one prominent figure missing from the guest list. Earlier this year, Musk and Trump had a public spat.

    As a result, Sam Altman of OpenAI, one of Mr. Musk’s competitors in the field of artificial intelligence, has been added to the guest list. Participants in the new Artificial Intelligence Education task committee included Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, Arvind Krishna, the chairman and CEO of IBM, and Cameron Wilson, the president of Code.org.

    It also includes Google Beam (formerly Project Starline) updates and real-time speech translation in Google Meet; and the ‘better’ Project Astra, which will be rebranded as Gemini Live camera conversation. Pichai revealed that HP will be bringing Google Beam, formerly known as Project Starline, to computers.

    In essence, it is a technological project created to improve remote communication by making it more organic and engaging. This technology simulates in-person interactions during video chats by combining artificial intelligence, 3D imagery, and other cutting-edge technologies.

    Key Features of Google Beam

    Pichai emphasised that Google Beam’s primary advantages include lifelike depiction through realistic 3D imaging and the ability to make authentic eye contact, which is frequently lacking in traditional video chats.

    The project’s second component is real-time speech translation in Google Meet, which enables communication between persons who do not speak the same language.

    Additionally, Google said that the AI-generated translation will maintain user voices, tones, and facial expressions. Subscribers can presently access the functionality in both Spanish and English. Later this year, Google plans to test this capability with Workspace users in Portuguese, German, and Italian, among other languages.

    Gemini Live for iPhones and Android

    An AI agent that can comprehend and interact with websites to do tasks like research, booking, and purchasing is created using the Gemini AI paradigm. According to Pichai, the AI tool can now handle up to ten jobs concurrently.

    For instance, the Gemini app’s new Agent Mode will enable users to accomplish even more. If they are looking for a flat, it will be helpful to locate properties on websites such as Zillow that fit their requirements, modify filters, and use MCP to view the listings and even arrange a tour.

    Subscribers will soon be able to access an experimental version of Agent Mode via the Gemini app. Additionally, it helps businesses like Zillow by increasing conversion rates and attracting new clients.

  • Google CEO Sundar Pichai Receives Contempt Notice from Mumbai Court

    Google CEO Sundar Pichai was served with a contempt notice by a Mumbai court on 2 December. The said notice has been served regarding YouTube’s noncompliance with a court order mandating the removal of a defamatory video called “Pakhandi Baba ki Kartut.” Yogi Ashwini, the founder of the animal charity NGO Dhyan Foundation, is purportedly the target of the posted video. 

    The notification was sent on November 21, 2024, by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Ballard Pier. The controversy started when the Bombay High Court ordered YouTube to remove the controversial video on March 31, 2024. 

    How it all Started?

    According to the Dhyan Foundation, the video includes offensive and defamatory content that has damaged Yogi Ashwini’s and the organisation’s reputations. The video is apparently still available outside India in spite of the court’s order. In October 2023, the Dhyan Foundation accused Google of wilfully disobeying the court order in a contempt plea. Raju Gupta, the NGO’s attorney, claims that Google has used delay tactics by requesting adjournments without good cause while reputational damage persists.

    Response from YouTube

    YouTube has responded by claiming that defamation is not a type of content that can be restricted under Section 69-A of the Information Technology (IT) Act, therefore invoking its immunity under the Act. Additionally, the platform said that civil courts, not criminal ones, are more appropriate for handling defamation cases.

     Because the IT Act does not specifically prohibit criminal courts from hearing such cases, the judge rejected YouTube‘s concerns. According to the court’s order, the respondent’s filed authority is currently beneficial to the court. The process is mentioned in the aforementioned authority. Nevertheless, it is never stated that the criminal court lacks the authority to consider such an application. Thus, in the humble view of the court, the current application’s maintainability will not be hindered by the ratio of the aforementioned authorities.

    Interestingly, this is not the first time Google has been involved in a dispute in the nation. Earlier this year, some Indian businesses claimed that Google was charging them a large 11-26% fee on payments made through alternative billing systems, prompting the antitrust authority to initiate a probe into the company’s contentious user choice pricing system. Google was previously fined more than INR 2,200 Cr by the antitrust commission in 2022 for two different cases concerning abuse of power in the market for Android devices and its Play Store regulations.

    In a different matter, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) is looking into Google after receiving a complaint from the gaming platform WinZO. The tech giant has been charged with giving Rummy and daily fantasy sports (DFS) apps a substantial competitive advantage at the expense of other real-money gambling (RMG) apps.
